WordPress Website Design for small businesses with big goals

Small business websites

Work with me to build the website your business needs

Unless you’ve been living under a rock since Y2K (a simpler time, I’ll admit), you already know that websites matter.

Trying to grow a business without a website in the 21st century is like trying to embrace the low-rise jeans trend again in your 30s: uncomfortable, unnecessary and virtually impossible.

You know you need a website. You know you want to grow your business. But what you might not know is that there’s a world of difference between a website and a good website.

I build good websites: websites that look great, are easy to use, are full of tasty-SEO-juices for Google to drink up, are accessible for everyone, and that are built around exactly what your business needs.

There are no out-of-the-box cut-and-paste same-as-everyone-else shenanigans around here. Instead, there are uniquely designed.

WordPress websites that are built to grow your business.

You’d rather sip cocktails than sort out your website

I understand how difficult it can be to find the time and the energy to work on the big-picture things that you know will benefit your business in the long run.

You put the ‘busy’ in ‘bus(y)ness owner’ and there’s always something way more urgent than sitting down to build a new website.

Even if you did know exactly what to do and how to do it, you still don’t have the time to do it.

And you might be worried you don’t even have the time to hire a website designer to do it for you – because they’ll be asking a hundred questions, demanding content and copy and photos and branding, and UGH you just don’t have the time.

Let’s build a tasty website design cocktail

The Website Design Cocktail is the perfect way to have a website just the way you like it.

Whether you’re looking for something bold that packs punch, or something light but fruity, just browse the menu, choose your flavours, then let me craft you a custom cocktail that tickles all of your tastebuds.

All while you sit back, relax and enjoy the sun.

A WordPress Web Design Cocktail is perfect for you if…

→ you know that your current website isn’t quite hitting the mark with your ideal clients

→ you’re terrified of how complex, complicated and code-y WordPress is – but know that it’s the best way to get a website that does exactly what you want it to

→ your business is growing, but your website hasn’t kept up – it’s old, outdated and doesn’t reflect how great your business is

→ you’d much rather get leads from Google (cheers, SEO) than have to get up and dance on TikTok for a few measly views

→ you don’t have the time to manage 4 different experts and would rather hand your website over to one person (hi!) whose team of specialists can get everything done for you in one single process

But it might not be quite right for you if…

→ you want a website up and running in the shortest time frame possible (hint: Website In A Day  is, shockingly, a website in a single day!)

→ you’ve got a WordPress website already that you’re fairly happy with and just want some advice on how to make it even better (hint: Website Consultations do just that!)

→ you’d rather have your website designed and built on something other than WordPress (if you’re on the fence about WordPress being the best option for you, let’s chat and get to the bottom of it!)

Meet Katrina, your website mixologist

Beach-lover, cocktail-enthusiast (iced coffee in the home office, of course), sun-worshipper – and your new favourite website designer!

I’ve been the face-and-brains behind Cariad Creative for over 10 years, so it’s safe to say I know a thing or two about building really great websites.

Driven by the desire to create websites that are accessible and easy to use for everyone (including my visually impaired daughter), I build WordPress websites for small businesses that care about growth, community and inclusivity.

When I’m not building websites, you’ll find me perfecting my homemade iced coffee recipe, dreaming of warmer weather (usually imagining the sandy beaches of my ancestral homeland of Mauritius) or doing the endless loads of laundry a husband and child generate with my 721st rewatch of Friends in the background.

FAQ

I get it: choosing where to invest your hard-earned cash is a biiiig decision. And when it’s website design, it really matters. After all, the website I design for you will be the public face of your business for the foreseeable future – it’s got to be right!

So, I’ve answered the most common questions I get asked below. And if there’s anything missing that I haven’t answered, I’m all ears… Book a call with me and ask all your questions!

What’s the benefit of using WordPress?

WordPress is one of the most powerful website platforms out there – which explains why over 40% of websites use WordPress as their CMS!

WordPress is completely customisable from the ground up, which makes it perfect for businesses who need a website to do exactly what they need it to do without being trapped by the limited integrations and functionality that other website platforms (like Wix and Squarespace) have.

From huge e-commerce brands to small service-based businesses, WordPress is used by millions of business owners to build websites that look good and work well. While a Squarespace or Wix website might do the job for now, a WordPress website is able to grow alongside your business, adding features and functionality as you need it without needing to do a full rebuild and hefty migration.

Is WordPress suitable for beginners? Can I manage it myself after it’s built?

Absolutely! WordPress might have a reputation for being complicated and complex and too difficult to manage yourself – but that’s not the kind of WordPress website I build!

It’s important to me that your website is your website. When I finish your website, I give you everything you need to manage it yourself moving forwards. From login details (you’ll be surprised how many website designers won’t even give you that access…) to video guides and support via email, I’ll equip you with the tools you need to manage your WordPress website yourself.

And, if there’s something that you need extra help with or you just don’t fancy doing yourself, that’s what Buy My Brain hours are for – hand it back over to me and I’ll work my magic!

Why is accessibility important in web design?

If your website isn’t accessible, you’re cutting off a huge segment of your audience before they even know who you are or what you do.

For anyone with an impairment that affects their ability to view or use a website, a website that’s been designed with no consideration for accessibility is like your customers turning up to a locked shop and you asking them to jump through the window instead.

Having an accessible website means, at the most basic level, having a website that allows everyone, no matter their level of impairment, to access and enjoy your website – and gives them the same opportunity as anyone else to purchase from you.

Visual impairments affect more than 2 million people in the UK (and my daughter is one of them) – so if you think that accessibility doesn’t really matter for your website, you’re missing out on a huge market of potential customers…

You can find out more about why I’m so passionate about accessibility over here

How much will I be involved in the design of my website?

At the end of the day, it’s your website – I’m just the hands and brain building it. I need your input throughout, but I’ve streamlined my design processes to make it as simple and efficient as possible – and so that you don’t need to set aside hundreds of hours of your time!

The involvement I need from you includes…

→ brain-dumping all of your thoughts and ideas on me at the initial consultation stage

→ sending over your copy, branding and imagery (if you’re providing it)

→ approvals, amends and feedback on your copy, branding and imagery (if we’re providing it)

→ feedback on your website drafts

How quickly can we work together?

Ever heard the joke about creative people answering every question with ‘It depends’?

Well, for this question, it really does depend!

More often than not, I’m booking projects in up to 4 weeks in advance – sometimes I have last-minute availability and sometimes I’m booking a couple of months ahead. If you have a particular deadline in mind, reaching out to get booked in as soon as possible is always advisable.

The best thing to do is get in touch and I can let you know my exact availability.

What do you need from me before designing my website?

I get it: you’re a busy business owner, and there’s a reason you’re investing in someone else designing your website… so knowing how much time you’ll need to set aside for your website design process is important!

Unless you’re choosing copy, photography, branding or legal docs as add-ons to your design package, this is what I’ll need from you before designing your website:

→ your visual branding, i.e. logo, colour palette and fonts

→ a good understanding of your business, as well as your ideal clients, your business goals and what you need your website to do for your business – I can’t build a website if I don’t know who or what it’s for!

→ copywriting for all pages on your website

→ professional imagery – your website design will only stand out from the crowd if it’s backed up by professional photography. Selfies aren’t ideal (sorry!) and neither is relying solely on stock imagery (although used sparingly is okay) – your website deserves better!

→ legal documents, including a Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions – I’m not a lawyer and would recommend getting specific legal advice on these things, just so your business is covered!

→ access to your domain (the bit after the www. in your website address) and any third party platforms that need integrating with your website, e.g. email marketing, scheduling software, payment processors, etc.

What are your payment terms?

I take a 50% deposit to book your project in, then the remaining 50% is due upon completion (before handover).

However, I do offer payment plans for the final payment – we can split the final 50% across 2-3 months to make things easier for you!
